Jewel of the Aegean
The world's most photographed sunset, white-washed clifftop villages, black-sand beaches, and red-domed churches above the caldera. Santorini is exactly as beautiful as the pictures suggest.

When to Visit
Santorini is truly shoulder-season friendly — May, June, September, and October offer the best weather without July–August's overwhelming crowds and heat. The island essentially closes November–March.

Experiences
The best experiences in Santorini — from iconic landmarks to local favourites, ranked by what travellers love most.
Santorini's famous sunset from the ruined castle in Oia draws hundreds every evening — arrive 2 hours early to claim a spot, or watch from one of the taverna terraces with a glass of Assyrtiko wine.
A 9km trail along the volcanic caldera edge connecting Fira to Oia — dramatic views the entire way. Allow 3–4 hours; begin at dawn to avoid the heat and have the path almost to yourself.
The Minoan Bronze Age city buried by the volcanic eruption of 1613 BC — preserved under volcanic ash like a Greek Pompeii. Extraordinary and almost always uncrowded.
Assyrtiko grown in the island's volcanic soil is one of Greece's finest whites. Santo Wines has the best caldera views; Domaine Sigalas has the best wine. A tasting costs €15–25.
Sail around the caldera, swim in the hot springs (naturally heated geothermal water), snorkel at White Beach, and watch the sunset from the water — the best perspective of Santorini's impossible beauty.

Accommodation
Pick your area first — each neighbourhood has a completely different price point and vibe.
Oia
Iconic & Romantic
Santorini's most photographed and most visited village — the blue-domed churches, the famous sunset viewpoint, the cave hotels carved into the caldera cliff, and the most beautiful boutique shops in Greece. Exceptionally beautiful but crowded July–August.
Fira & Firostefani
Central & Lively
The island's capital and the best all-round base — the caldera views, the cable car connecting to the port, museums, the starting point of the caldera rim walk, and a wider range of restaurants and accommodation price points than Oia.
Perissa & Kamari
Relaxed Beach Town
The black-sand beach side of Santorini — much more affordable, a proper beach town atmosphere, water sports, and the stunning Red Beach nearby. Excellent value and a complete contrast to the caldera villages above.

Dining
From street food to fine dining — the dishes you must try and the restaurants locals actually go to.
Start with simple local restaurants around Oia; the best meals are usually regional staples rather than generic tourist menus.
A relaxed break between sightseeing stops, useful for planning the next leg and escaping midday heat or rain.
Choose one dinner with a view, heritage setting, or standout regional kitchen to anchor the trip.
Transport
Base yourself near Oia if you only have 1-2 days.
Use autos or app cabs for short hops where available; agree prices before starting if rides are not metered.
Hire a local driver for spread-out sights or day trips.
Start outdoor sightseeing early for better light, lower heat, and fewer crowds.
Keep cash for small entries, parking, local snacks, and places without reliable card payments.
Insider Knowledge
Prioritise Castle of Oia sunset spot early in the day before crowds build.
Pair Caldera cliff walk with nearby food stops instead of crossing the city repeatedly.
Check weekly closures and festival dates before locking the itinerary.
Carry a light layer, sun protection, and water; Indian travel days often run longer than expected.
Book peak-season accommodation ahead, especially around long weekends and school holidays.
