Coorg (officially Kodagu) is the coffee-growing district of Karnataka, tucked into the Western Ghats at 1,000–1,700 metres. Called "the Scotland of India" for its misty hills, rushing streams, and green landscapes, it receives some of India's highest rainfall and produces some of Asia's finest Arabica coffee. For weekenders from Bangalore (5 hours) and Chennai (6 hours), it is the default answer to "I need mountains and I need them this weekend."

The best coffee experience in Coorg: stay at a working coffee estate home stay, wake up at 6am when the estate is silver with mist, drink filter coffee made from beans picked the previous day on the estate's own bushes. This is better than any café in the world.
