Bali 7-Day Itinerary: The Perfect Week in Bali

Day-by-day: Ubud rice terraces, Mount Batur sunrise, Nusa Penida cliffs, Uluwatu temple and Seminyak sunsets. The most efficient and beautiful way to spend a week in Bali.

Seven days is the ideal length for a first Bali trip. Long enough to cover the major experiences across different areas, short enough that you do not exhaust yourself. This itinerary balances culture (Ubud), adventure (Mount Batur, Nusa Penida), and relaxation (Seminyak, Uluwatu), progressing logically across the island.

Day 1–2: Ubud — Culture & Rice Terraces

  • Day 1 morning: Tegallalang Rice Terraces at 8am before tour buses. Walk the narrow paths between flooded paddies.
  • Day 1 afternoon: Ubud Monkey Forest, Ubud Art Market, Jalan Monkey Forest cafes.
  • Day 1 evening: Traditional Kecak Fire Dance at Pura Saraswati temple (free, in the temple courtyard).
  • Day 2: Tirta Empul purification temple at 7am, cooking class at Paon Bali, Campuhan Ridge Walk at sunset.

Day 3: Mount Batur Sunrise Trek

Leave your accommodation at 2am. By 5:30am you are at 1,717 metres watching the sun rise over the caldera. The clouds below you turn pink, Lombok's Rinjani volcano appears on the horizon, and you eat breakfast of boiled eggs and toast cooked in volcanic steam vents. Return to Ubud by 11am, sleep in the afternoon.

Day 4: Nusa Penida Day Trip

  • Fast boat from Sanur harbour at 7:30am (₹900 each way). Book with experienced operators — see company reviews.
  • Kelingking Beach viewpoint — The T-Rex cliff. The 45-minute steep descent to the beach is optional.
  • Angel's Billabong natural infinity pool and Broken Beach arch. Best before 10am.
  • Manta Bay snorkelling — Book the afternoon boat tour for manta rays.
  • Return boat to Sanur by 5pm. Dinner at Seminyak.

Day 5–6: Seminyak & Canggu

  • Day 5: Seminyak Beach at sunset, Potato Head Beach Club for one drink, dinner at Sarong or Metis.
  • Day 6: Canggu for the day — Batu Bolong surf lesson, Old Man's beach club lunch, Echo Beach sunset, vibrant cafe scene.

Day 7: Uluwatu & Departure

  • Morning: Uluwatu Temple on the cliff edge (monkeys — watch your glasses, phone, and hair accessories).
  • Afternoon: Padang Padang beach (Eat Pray Love beach), Suluban Cave beach bar.
  • Evening: Kecak ceremony at Uluwatu (sunset backdrop — book in advance). Transfer to airport for late flight.
🛵

Rent a scooter for Canggu and Seminyak days (~$5/day). Do NOT ride a scooter for the Ubud rice terrace roads unless you are an experienced rider — narrow, winding, and with steep drops. For Ubud, use Grab (Indonesia's Uber) or hire a driver for the day (~$40).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the perfect 7-day Bali itinerary?

Days 1–2: Seminyak/Canggu for beaches and sunset. Days 3–4: Ubud for Tegalalang rice terraces, Monkey Forest, and traditional cooking class. Day 5: Kintamani volcano lake and Tirta Empul water temple. Day 6: Nusa Penida day trip (Kelingking Beach, Angel's Billabong, Broken Beach). Day 7: Uluwatu Temple sunset + Kecak fire dance.

Is 7 days enough for Bali?

Seven days is the sweet spot for Bali — enough to cover the main zones (Seminyak/Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu) and do at least one island day trip (Nusa Penida or Nusa Lembongan). You won't get bored, but you also won't feel rushed. Ten days allows a more relaxed pace or adds the north (Munduk, Singaraja).

Should I stay in one place in Bali or move around?

Moving around is the Bali way. Most visitors split time between coastal Seminyak/Canggu (2–3 nights), Ubud in the hills (2–3 nights), and either Uluwatu/Nusa Dua in the south or a day trip to the Nusa Islands. Moving between these areas takes 1–2 hours by Grab or scooter.

What is the best way to get around Bali?

Grab (Southeast Asia's Uber) is the most convenient option — pre-set price, no haggling. Scooter rental (IDR 60,000–100,000/day) is cheapest and gives the most freedom but requires riding experience on busy roads. Private car hire with driver (IDR 400,000–600,000/day) is comfortable for longer journeys and groups.
